Indications and Dosage
Intravenous
Scorpion envenomation
Adult: Initiate treatment as soon as possible after scorpion sting. Initially, 3 vials; may administer additional vials at 1-vial increments every 30 to 60 minutes as needed.
Child: Same as adult dose.
Special Precautions
Antivenom is usually used in conjunction with supportive treatment for cardiotoxic effects e.g. α-blockers, calcium-channel blockers and ACE inhibitors. Sensitivity testing should be carried out prior to admin of antisera; ensure availability of adrenaline and resuscitation equipment.
Adverse Reactions
Anaphylaxis may occur, with hypotension, dyspnoea, urticaria and shock.

Mechanism of Action: The use of a scorpion venom antiserum appropriate for the species of scorpion can prevent or reduce symptoms after bites. It should be given with the least possible delay; other general supportive measures and symptomatic treatment are also required.
